PLASTIC OCEAN

PLASTIC OCEAN

Plastic Ocean film was created with waste collected from the streets of Bangkok, hopefully before it reaches our rivers and oceans.
Our concept was to create an underwater world re-inventing plastic waste into dream like coral sculptures, vibrant sea creature puppets that tell a metaphorical message we hope will inspire change.

HOW PLASTIC WASTE WAS TRANSFORMED INTO AN OCEAN
Concerned about the impact ocean waste is having on the environment, Nice Monster approached Wonderfruit to help create this hand made puppet film here in Bangkok. Supporting Wonderfruit’s ethos of a sustainable, environmentally bright future we started to plan how to effectively turn street trash into a living breathing film.  We started exploring the possibilities we had with the plastic, and from early on we knew we had to give the appearance of life. To create the soft flow of ocean anomies we began filming upside down sets using gravity and hand fans to create the illusion of the ocean current.  Once our world was created we used plastic containers to form the structure of our puppets and old shopping bags to decorate their external form.  Clown Fish, Whale sharks, Sea horses, Star Fish and Jelly Fish make up our plastic waste puppet ocean.    These animals were shot green screen and composited into the set footage – creating a visually striking film.  The emotional soundtrack completes the journey which we hope will raise awareness and contribute to people’s way of thinking when it comes to creative approaches to their one time use plastic.
